KER TOKI POWER ROMANIA, an electricity supplier, aggregator, optimizer and trader, announces the launch of its first greenfield investment in Romania: a standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) with an installed power capacity of 147 MW and an energy storage capacity of 294 MWh, with the potential to expand to 609 MWh.
The investment, estimated at several tens of millions of euros, is scheduled for completion in the first half of next year.
“We are delighted to announce KER TOKI POWER’s first greenfield investment in Romania. The project in Ișalnița marks an important step in our development strategy for the local market and reflects our commitment to contributing to a more flexible, efficient energy system that is better prepared to integrate renewable energy,” said Aurel Mîndrican, General Manager of KER TOKI POWER Romania.
Through this investment, KER TOKI POWER ROMANIA aims to strengthen its ability to aggregate and optimize electricity, helping reduce balancing costs while unlocking the value of flexibility across energy assets.
“We remain committed to the policy we have adopted: delivering a fair price for energy, while making it as green as possible. For KER TOKI POWER Romania, our priority is the commercial operation and performance optimization of the generation and storage capacities of our partners and of the RENALFA SOLARPRO Group, which we are part of.
We position ourselves as an aggregator and optimizer, playing an important role both in the local and regional markets, where we operate alongside our sister companies under the umbrella of TOKI POWER HOLDING GmbH.
The decision to develop investments of this kind responds to the current challenges facing the energy system: the need to integrate an ever-increasing volume of renewable energy without creating imbalances in the grid.
As balancing costs represent a significant component of the overall cost of energy, investment in storage is, for us, the first step towards an integrated aggregation and optimization solution. Through the project we are launching today, we aim to contribute to the stability of Romania’s and the region’s energy systems,” added Aurel Mîndrican.
Development plans: up to 1,200 MWh of storage
KER TOKI POWER ROMANIA’s strategy includes the development of its own standalone battery storage capacities, with a total estimated capacity ranging between 609 MWh and 1,200 MWh.
“At first glance, we have already achieved our initial target: 300 MWh of storage capacity. Our plans, and those of our shareholders, are to continue investing. Romania is one of the Group’s most important markets, benefiting from interconnections with Bulgaria, Hungary and Serbia — countries where we are already active at Group level.
Our strategy focuses on organic expansion in the Romanian market, in line with the regional development of the Group,” said Aurel Mîndrican, General Manager of KER TOKI POWER Romania.
A subsidiary of TOKI POWER HOLDING GmbH, KER TOKI POWER ROMANIA is an electricity supplier, optimizer, aggregator and trader licensed by the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE). The company is part of the RENALFA SOLARPRO Group, one of the leading renewable energy companies in Southeastern Europe.
