MetaWealth, a European real-asset investment platform, has completed a 19 million euros financing package for its Dumbrava battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Romania, marking the first financial close under its Romanian BESS program, which has a total estimated investment value of approximately 160 million euros.
The Dumbrava project is a standalone 50 MW / 100 MWh battery energy storage facility located in Neamț County. The 19 million euros financing package includes approximately 10 million euros in senior debt provided by CEC Bank under a seven-year facility, alongside 9 million euros in sponsor and investor equity.
Dumbrava is the first project to reach financial close within MetaWealth’s Romanian BESS program. The program currently comprises identified and development-stage projects with an aggregate capacity of approximately 850 MWh, representing an estimated total investment of around 160 million euros.
The investment comes as energy storage becomes increasingly important for Romania’s power system, amid the rapid expansion of renewable generation. Romania added approximately 2.2 GW of solar capacity in 2025 and surpassed 8.5 GW of installed solar capacity in August 2026. Solar power currently accounts for between one-quarter and, on some days, more than half of the country’s daytime electricity demand.
Of the 9 million euros in equity, the Topolinski family is contributing 5.5 million euros, while 3.5 million euros is being provided by institutional and private investors through MetaWealth Luxembourg and its authorized distribution partners. This includes a 500,000 euros investment from BRD Asset Management (Société Générale).
“Dumbrava brings together the MetaWealth development model in a single transaction: specialist origination and structuring, significant sponsor capital, participation from platform investors, local bank financing and experienced execution partners,” said Michael Topolinski, founder and CEO of MetaWealth.
“Following the completion of the financing round and the start of construction, we are now focused on delivering the project toward its targeted commercial operation date in April 2027. Dumbrava is the first step in building an energy infrastructure program in Romania capable of mobilizing capital from sponsors, investors and banks at scale,” he added.
The project is already under construction and has received approval for its grid connection. The main equipment packages are prepared for delivery, while the connection does not require additional reinforcement of the electricity grid. The facility is located approximately 300 meters from a transmission-grid transformer substation.
Parapet Group is serving as the project’s EPC contractor, with commercial operations expected to begin in April 2027.
The Dumbrava financial close marks a significant milestone for MetaWealth’s expansion into Romanian energy infrastructure and provides the first funded project within its broader BESS development pipeline.
