Schneider Electric and its partner Terabit are implementing a complete building automation and management system in the new Ramada by Wyndham, a 4-star hotel in Zalău. This ambitious project involves the conversion of the former Romanian Post building. The Building Management solution integrates thermal control, ventilation, lighting, and guest rooms, aiming to increase operational efficiency and enhance the guest experience.
A hotel with state-of-the-art technological features (Smart Hotel), such as the Ramada in Zalău, is defined by the use of digital innovations to personalize the guest experience, improve operational efficiency, and, not least, reduce energy costs. The hotel has recently opened and is part of the new urban architecture of Iuliu Maniu Square.
Available throughout the entire property, the EcoStruxure™ Building solution from Schneider Electric enables centralized monitoring and control of installations across the hotel: the heating plant, air handling units for the restaurant, kitchens, and lobby, air-to-water and water-to-water heat pump systems, as well as the lighting system with DALI communication and presence sensors in common, technical areas, and event halls.
The project covers all 81 rooms, each equipped with a 4” touchscreen panel for adjusting temperature and lighting. Digitally labelled buttons with intuitive icons are installed at the bedside and in the hallway, while exterior glass touch panels include the room number and DND (“Do Not Disturb”) and MUR (“Make Up Room”) functions. Additionally, the SOS icon is connected to the reception system and serves as an emergency signal, while the in-room presence icon helps housekeeping staff avoid disturbing guests when they are inside.
The BMS (Building Management System) platform provided by Schneider Electric is installed on the hotel’s server and integrated with the hotel management software. Upon reservation, the room automatically enters “Comfort” mode, setting climate, lighting, and safety parameters according to predefined scenarios. The integration also facilitates maintenance operations through centralized visualization and alerts in case of malfunctions.
The building of the newest Ramada hotel in Romania is equipped with a modern heat pump system that optimizes energy consumption. Together with the automatic control of heating/cooling loops, scheduling programs, presence sensors, and lighting management, the project supports the property’s energy efficiency objectives.
Terabit, a certified EcoXpert partner, has been collaborating with Schneider Electric for over ten years on automation projects for hotels, hospitals, offices, shopping centers, and residential buildings.
