Distrigaz Sud Rețele invested a total of 558 million lei in Romania’s natural gas distribution network in 2025, focusing on two strategic priorities: ensuring the safe operation of the distribution system and expanding gas infrastructure.
The largest share of the budget — 353 million lei — was allocated to modernizing the distribution system. This included replacing steel pipelines with polyethylene pipes, which offer superior technical performance and a longer service life. As part of the upgrade, the company replaced 162 kilometers of pipelines and service connections, approximately 15,500 pressure regulation and metering stations, and 201,500 natural gas meters.
To support network expansion and connect new customers, the company invested an additional 205 million lei last year, representing 37% of the total investment budget. This enabled the commissioning of 380 kilometers of new pipelines and the installation of around 13,000 new connections, bringing 46,300 new customers onto the gas distribution network.
At the same time, Distrigaz Sud Rețele continued to digitalize its customer services and became the first natural gas distribution operator to implement the ePortalDGSR platform.
Over its 21 years of activity in the energy market, the company’s total investments have reached approximately 1.3 billion euro, contributing to a significant transformation of the gas distribution network. During this period, the network’s total length nearly doubled from 14,200 kilometers to 24,483 kilometers. About 8,936 kilometers of pipelines were rehabilitated and modernized, with steel pipes replaced by higher-performance polyethylene ones, increasing the share of polyethylene infrastructure from 23% to 75%.
Additionally, the number of customers connected to the natural gas distribution network has doubled, now exceeding 2.32 million.
