MedLife, the largest private medical services network in Romania, announces the completion of the transaction for the full takeover of the MEDSTAR group of clinics in Cluj-Napoca. With the closing of the transaction, MEDSTAR becomes part of the Sfanta Maria network, a brand of MedLife Group dedicated mainly to patients accessing National Health Insurance House (NHIH) services.
The transaction, initially announced in June 2025, was completed on January 29, 2026, after all necessary conditions were met. Through this step, MedLife, through the Sfanta Maria network, strengthens its presence in the Transylvania region and expands patients’ access to quality medical services, under the NHIH regime.
“The completion of the takeover of MEDSTAR marks an important milestone in the MedLife Group’s strategy for the development of the Sfanta Maria brand. We want to build strong medical networks, with solid local roots and with accessible services for as many patients as possible. The full integration of MEDSTAR allows us to come up with an extensive and competitive medical offer for the community of Cluj and for the entire region”, said Dorin Preda, Deputy CEO of MedLife Group.
Founded in 2004, MEDSTAR operates in Cluj-Napoca a portfolio consisting of four clinics, a laboratory, light imaging services and medical recovery bases, offering services in over 30 specialties, through a team of over 200 doctors and specialists.
With the completion of the transaction, MEDSTAR’s management remains with the local team, ensuring operational continuity and gradual integration into the Sfanta Maria medical network.
The Sfanta Maria network currently brings together over 60 medical units nationwide and is one of the most important providers of medical services under contract with NHIH, having an extensive presence in the main cities in Romania. At the level of Bucharest, Sfanta Maria is probably the network with the largest number of family doctors and specialists under contract with the NHIH, ranking in the top 3 at national level.
