The International Conference on Hydrogen Production – ICH2P 2025 and the International Symposium on Exergy, Energy and the Environment – IEEES 2025, organized by ICMET Craiova and the University of Craiova, brought together in this city, between December 14–18, 2025, a total of 82 speakers—46 international and 36 from Romania—and over 180 participants. A total of 132 research papers were accepted, 42 of which were authored by researchers with international affiliations and 90 by specialists from Romania. Of these, 63 papers were presented in the dedicated conference sessions.
The International Conference on Hydrogen Production (ICH2P) is a well-established, multidisciplinary international event in the field of hydrogen-based energy, focusing on H₂ production, technology, and related research. The International Symposium on Exergy, Energy and the Environment (IEEES) has become a landmark in the field, encouraging international collaboration and knowledge exchange on topics related to energy, exergy, and the environment. Both events reached their 16th edition and were organized concurrently due to the many shared elements that highlight their academic, scientific, and technical prestige.
Initiated by Professor Ibrahim Dincer and his peer colleagues at Ontario Tech University to showcase state-of-the-art research in hydrogen production through various thermal, chemical, biological, and other methods, as well as its use in different systems, the events aimed to provide hydrogen researchers with the opportunity to present their work, exchange information, and promote collaboration among research institutes from different countries, thus contributing to the sector’s development through continuous innovation.

“This event started 16 years ago in Canada at Ontario Tech University, when we wanted to transform this place into a hydrogen-dedicated university, and in this regard we launched a series of projects addressing this field. the idea of organizing a conference on hydrogen was strongly supported at that time, and after its launch in Canada, the event traveled around the world, reaching China, Japan, Korea, and now Romania, in Craiova. The topic of hydrogen is of overwhelming importance because developing an ecosystem based on this gas has become a critical step toward decarbonization, with energy hydrogen being a viable solution in this endeavor. at the same time, I would like to mention that we are living in the hydrogen era, as the age of carbon has come to an end. this makes the event organized in Craiova particularly important, and I would like to thank the hosts for organizing these two conferences,” said dr. Ibrahim Dincer, professor of mechanical engineering at Ontario Tech University.
“In recent years, the Craiova Institute has set itself the goal of once again taking a leading role on Romania’s scientific stage and beyond. to achieve this, alongside a new and more prudent managerial approach—one that directs budgets more toward investments than expenses—the current leadership team understands the importance of organizing events that attract the scientific and academic community. from this perspective, the organization of this dual international event, where for the first time the international symposium on exergy, energy and the environment and the international conference on hydrogen production were held together, is part of ICMET Craiova’s commitment to being highly active. This scientific event is not merely a holiday gift to Oltenia; it is the result of the perseverance of those involved and of the prestige it enjoys, grounded in the belief that progress does not only mean what is new or best,” stated Ioan Iordache, general director of ICMET Craiova.
“It is a great honor for the University of Craiova to host two major scientific events: the 16th edition of the international symposium on exergy, energy and the environment (ieees-2025) and the 16th edition of the international conference on hydrogen production (ich2p-2025). as one of Romania’s leading universities and a respected higher-education institution in Europe, we believe in scientific research with global relevance and local applicability. the constant synergy between fundamental, multidisciplinary, and applied research prepares us to respond to the challenges of our highly dynamic world. we are committed to offering new generations of engineers, chemists, physicists, economists, and artists the values of inclusion, openness, transparency, and academic integrity. Today, more than ever, international collaboration lies at the heart of scientific progress, and these two events demonstrate that universities will always be pillars of human advancement,” affirmed prof.Cezar Ionuț Spînu, rector of the University of Craiova.
Researchers from 21 countries contributed to the scientific value of the event (Algeria, Belgium, Canada, South Korea, Croatia, Denmark, Ecuador, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Morocco, Norway, Poland, Romania, Qatar, the USA, and Turkey). Their research was evaluated by a scientific committee composed of researchers and professors from prestigious research institutes and universities in Romania.
The papers accepted for presentation at IEEES 2025 and ICH2P 2025 will be published in a conference volume with an ISBN. High-quality papers with archival value will be considered in extended form for publication in renowned international journals such as International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, International Journal of Global Warming, International Journal of Exergy, and Energy Storage.
Over time, the International Conference on Hydrogen Production and the International Symposium on Exergy, Energy and the Environment have been hosted by countries including Australia, Canada, China, Croatia, Egypt, France, Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Qatar, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, South Korea, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.
Craiova hosted the 2025 editions of both events, placing the city on the map of university centers that place special importance on research and innovation in fields relevant to the European agenda, such as hydrogen.
