NEPI Rockcastle is moving forward with its green energy strategy in Romania. Following the inauguration of its first solar park in Arad County with an installed capacity of 54 MW, the company has announced the development of two additional photovoltaic projects in Prahova County.
“We are preparing two new solar projects in Prahova County — the first with a capacity of 59 MW and the second with 47 MW. These are neighboring projects; the first will be completed by the end of this year, while the second is scheduled for completion at the end of 2026 and will be connected to the grid no later than 2027,” said Andrei Radu, Group Development Director, NEPI Rockcastle, in an interview for The Diplomat-Bucharest.
“The total investment in the two new Prahova photovoltaic parks amounts to 70 million euros. The solar park in Arad, as well as the two new projects in Prahova, are designed to include battery storage systems. Once we complete all three photovoltaic parks in Romania, they will cover 85% of the energy consumption of our local shopping centers,” Radu explained for The Diplomat-Bucharest.
“The next natural step in our green energy development plan is to expand with similar solar projects in Poland,” he added.
NEPI Rockcastle, the largest developer, owner and operator of shopping centres in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), marks a strategic milestone in its sustainability and energy transition efforts by inaugurating today its first photovoltaic park, located in Chișineu-Criș, Arad County, Romania.
The investment is part of NEPI Rockcastle’s green energy programme, which includes a €110 million plan for photovoltaic projects across Central and Eastern Europe. These projects will be developed both on existing commercial properties and through two major greenfield developments in Romania, with a total installed capacity of 159 MW.
The photovoltaic park in western Romania, worth approximately €30 million, covers around 51 hectares and has an installed capacity of 54 MW. The project was completed in roughly ten months, and company estimates indicate that it will generate around 70,000 MWh of renewable electricity annually — equivalent to the consumption of over 29,000 households in Romania. At the same time, NEPI Rockcastle expects the project to contribute to environmental protection by avoiding more than 21,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
This development represents the largest photovoltaic investment dedicated to commercial infrastructure in Romania — and the first of its kind implemented by a group from the commercial real estate sector.
