Coca-Cola celebrates 30 years of production in Timișoara with a 5 million RON investment in a solar park

The Coca-Cola factory in Timișoara marks 30 years of operations with a strategic sustainability investment: the first photovoltaic park in the Coca-Cola System network in Romania, worth 5 million lei.

The factory’s story began in 1993, when the first Coca-Cola bottles were distributed on the local market. The team’s achievements convinced the company to build a modern bottling unit, officially inaugurated in 1995. Since then, the factory has become a benchmark of technological excellence, with continuous investments transforming it into a strategic hub for Coca-Cola HBC. Today, the plant produces around 284 million liters of beverages annually and exports to 15 countries, benefiting from fully automated processes and cutting-edge digital technologies.

The photovoltaic park investment amounts to 5 million lei, of which about 1.5 million lei—covering 47% of the eligible costs for construction, equipment, and panels—was secured through a grant from the European Union’s Modernisation Fund. The new facility will supply approximately 20% of the plant’s annual electricity needs and cut CO₂ emissions by nearly 1,200 tons per year, demonstrating that economic growth and environmental care can go hand in hand.

“This investment is clear proof of our commitment to a greener future and to achieving Coca-Cola HBC’s goal of reducing emissions to net zero across the entire value chain by 2040. The photovoltaic park in Timisoara is a sustainable solution that allows us to produce locally, more responsibly,” adds Cornel Cărămizaru, General Manager of Coca-Cola HBC Romania.

Present in the Romanian market for 34 years, the Coca-Cola System—made up of Coca-Cola Romania and Coca-Cola HBC Romania—continues to have a significant impact on the national economy. In 2024 alone, the Coca-Cola System generated €911 million in added value, equivalent to 0.26% of GDP, of which €502 million represented the contribution of the value chain to the state budget.

This approach aligns with the wider economic impact of the Coca-Cola System nationwide. According to the 2024 Socio-Economic Impact Study, purchases of goods and services from the Romanian market exceeded €216 million, with 86% of supplier partners being local. The company’s activity supports 20,700 direct and indirect jobs, including 1,560 employees of the Coca-Cola System Romania, with each direct job supporting an additional 12 along the value chain.
