Rețele Electrice România, part of the PPC group in Romania, has started working on the modernization of medium and low voltage networks in the locality Cenad, Timiș County, for the benefit of about 1,600 inhabitants. The project is part of a project financed through the Fund for Modernization Key Program 3.2.
„In Cenad, we invest in modernization and digitalization of the power grid to create a resilient network and resistant to the challenges of climate change. The solutions include the transition of the medium voltage network and partially the low voltage network from the air construction to the underground, installation of medium voltage switch gear equipped with protections, and which can be controlled remotely to ensure minimum refueling times, as well as replacing the connections of our customers. The project brings benefits in terms of safety in electricity supply, has a minimal impact on the environment, at the same time reducing to zero the visual pollution thus contributing to the preservation of the historical aspect of the locality. During the work we will take all necessary measures and will make every effort to minimize possible discomfort felt by customers and community“ said Mihai Pește, General Director of Rețele Electrice România.
The project has a total value of 58 million lei (VAT included), and it has financing from the Fund for Modernization of 34.45 million lei.
The works in the town of Cenad consist in the modernization of 8 overhead secondary substations by replacing them in concrete tire transformer stations and their introduction into the automation and telecontrol system, in order to optimize the electricity distribution service, whether we are talking about the duration of the interruptions, their frequency or the quality of the electricity. During the execution of the work, temporary power outages in the targeted areas may occur. These will be scheduled and announced in advance to minimize consumer discomfort in Cenad.
Also, the project includes the modernization of the low voltage network, by replacing the air network over a length of 41.2 km and its reconfiguration, but also the underground introduction of low voltage circuits over 2.92 km, and a medium voltage line over a length of 8.65 km.
With the replacement of the electrical network, fiber optic lines will be installed to ensure fast communication necessary for network remote monitoring and control activities, as well as the installation of electricity quality analyzers in each transformation post. The connections of over 1,600 customers targeted by these network upgrades will be replaced; on this occasion, the electricity meters will be placed at the property limit.
Rețele Electrice România operates electricity networks with a total length of approximately 134.000 kilometers across three important regions of the country: Muntenia (including Bucharest), Banat and Dobrogea, covering one-third of the local distribution market, and developing a program of investments aimed at improving the service quality, the network safety and performance, and local implementing of the PPC Group’s environmental standards. The electricity networks operated by Rețele Electrice România include 289 substations and more than 25.000 secondary substations.
