AKTOR Romania announces the official opening of Lot 3 of the A0 Sud Highway starting June 30, 2025. This marks the completion of the southern half-ring of the Bucharest Motorway, a strategic objective for the national infrastructure network and for regional mobility.
Lot 3 of the A0 South Motorway totals almost 18 km (15.465 km of the southern half-belt and 2.5 km of the northern half-belt), separated from the A1 Bucharest – Pitești motorway, with a large passage over it, in the Ciorogârla area. The route includes four bridges, six road crossings (overpasses), nine motorway crossings, 46 footbridges, two short-term parking lots and two service areas. Also, embankment works, embankments, modern lighting systems (with over 620 poles) and ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems), perimeter fences, protective parapets, road markings and sound-absorbing panels were integrated, along with landscaping and land development works. At the time of completion, approximately 260,000 tons of asphalt were laid.
The most spectacular structures on the lot are the A0–A1 interchange at Ciorogârla, which overpasses the existing motorway; the approximately 512 m overpass across the Bucharest – Craiova railway line (the longest super-structure on the section); and the Țegheș overpass, where prefabricated beams over 40 m long were installed after the relocation of a high-pressure gas pipeline.
“The completion of Lot 3 of the A0 South is a particularly important moment for the entire AKTOR team and a clear proof of our commitment to Romania and its strategic infrastructure. We have made significant efforts to deliver a quality project, despite the technical and administrative difficulties encountered, related to projects of such magnitude. We are proud to have contributed to the development of an essential highway for regional and national mobility. Our international experience, know-how and technical capabilities can help Romania advance its effort to create state-of-the-art modern infrastructures“, said Alexandros Exarchou, Chairman and CEO, AKTOR Group of Companies.
The A0 South Motorway has a positive role in decongesting traffic in the Bucharest area and in streamlining transit connections between the west and east of the country, through the direct connection between A1 and A2. The opening of Lot 3 allows the complete bypass of the Capital on the southern route, reducing travel time on this axis by up to 30 minutes and contributing to improving the quality of life in adjacent urban areas.
AKTOR maintains its commitment to actively contribute to the development of road infrastructure in Romania and takes this opportunity to thank the central and local authorities for their constant collaboration to realize this project.
