Rețele Electrice România, part of the PPC Group in Romania, launched on the electronic public procurement platform SEAP a public tender with a value of about 40 million lei (excluding VAT), for the purchase of secondary substations in fully equipped concrete structures, which will be used in investment projects carried out in the period 2025 – 2027.

The project supports the strategic objectives of ensuring a more efficient distribution service, flexible and aligned to current needs, in a context marked by accelerated urbanization and the development of decentralized production.

„We constantly invest in the distribution network to increase its performance and resilience, but also to better meet the requirements of our customers. This acquisition of secondary substations in concrete structures with the related equipment, supports our future modernization projects and network expansion in the areas where we operate. Increasing the resilience of the network is essential to deal with extreme climate events and to ensure a safe and continuous supply of energy. We aim to build a flexible infrastructure that is able to adapt quickly to the new technological requirements and consumption dynamics”, said Mihai Pește, General Director of Rețele Electrice România.

In this regard, the company will purchase prefabricated concrete structures equipped with RMU units (Ring Main Unit – ring distribution unit) – SF6-free compact switching equipment used in medium voltage networks, providing power to users, mounted in networks up to 24 kV, adapted for altitudes up to 1000 meters above sea level.

The contract will have a validity period of 48 months. To encourage sustainable practices, the company included specific criteria in the selection process. Thus, bidders demonstrating the use of recyclable packaging will benefit an additional score in the evaluation of technical offers.

This initiative is part of a comprehensive investment plan in energy infrastructure, through which the company aims to reduce technological losses, improving service quality and increasing integration capacity a renewable energy sources in the network.

This year, Rețele Electrice România plans to invest more than 730 million lei. On top of that, there will be projects with funding attracted from the POIM and the Fund for Modernization in the three areas, Banat, Dobrogea and Muntenia South, which will be completed in the period 2026-2029 worth 1.4 billion lei, of which approx. 340 million lei which will be fully financed from own funds.

By the end of the 2025, the total number of smart meters installed by the company Rețele Electrice România will reach approximately 2 million, the highest volume reached by any electricity distribution operator from Romania.
