Transelectrica marks 70 years since the first shift was provided, on June 13, 1955, within the National Energy Dispatcher (DEN) – the key structure that ensures, in real time, the safe operation of the national electricity system and its coordination in the European interconnected network. The anniversary was celebrated through an event that brought together government officials, officials from the energy sector regulatory authority, representatives of Parliament, leaders of other energy system operators, as well as current and former employees of the National Energy Dispatcher.
The anniversary event was attended by members of the Company’s Management Board, members of the Supervisory Board, Rareș Stelian Rusu and Dumitru Virgil Orlandea, the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, the President of ANRE, George Niculescu, as well as the chairmen of the specialized committees of the Romanian Parliament, namely the chairman of the Industry and Services Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, Bende Sándor, and the chairman of the Energy, Energy Infrastructure and Mineral Resources Committee of the Senate, Antal István-Loránt.
The National Energy Dispatcher has had an impressive evolution over time. On February 1, 1955, the National Energy Dispatcher was established, initially under the name of the National Dispatcher Service. At the initiative of the technical managers and dispatchers who contributed to the establishment of the National Energy Dispatcher, on June 13, 1955, the first shift was ensured, which was also the official date of birth of DEN. This moment represented the basis for the further development and transformations of the management of the National Power System.
Thus, June 13, 1955, is the date that marks the starting point for the further transformations and development of the management of the National Power System (SEN). The establishment of the National Energy Dispatcher, on June 13, 1955, was imposed by the interconnection of the regional energy systems of Transylvania and Moldova, in 1954.
Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja: “I feel truly honored to be Minister of Energy at a time when the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the National Energy Dispatcher is being marked. It is, without exaggeration, one of the most important institutions in the Romanian energy system. DEN is a strategic node that ensures, every second, the safe functioning of the National Energy Sector. From 1955 until today, the engineers and specialists from the Dispatcher have continuously watched over production and consumption, in order to avoid serious problems, intervened in critical moments, managed crises and kept Romania in sync with the European network. Their work is not visible, but without it nothing would function as it should at the level of the Sector National Energy Dispatcher. I thank, on behalf of the Ministry of Energy and the Government of Romania, all those who work or have worked in this elite institution. Professionals of the highest level, whose rigor, responsibility and devotion are an example.”
Transelectrica CEO, Ștefãnițã Munteanu: “The 70th anniversary of the National Energy Dispatcher is not just a festive moment, but a tribute to all those who, through competence and dedication, ensure the safe operation of the National Power System and the energy security of Romania every day. The Energy Dispatcher is the heart of the system – without stopping, without pause, without interruption. We are grateful to all those who have made and continue to make the heart beat and bring light to Romania! Happy birthday, National Energy Dispatcher!”
Director of the National Energy Dispatcher, Transelectrica, Virgiliu Ivan: “This anniversary is, above all, about people. About those who, day after day, watch over Romania’s energy balance with responsibility and professionalism. Each of our colleagues working in the National Energy Dispatcher is a unique and important part of a system that is not allowed to make mistakes. 70 years means entire generations of specialists who have contributed, through quiet but essential work, to the country’s energy stability and security. To them – the pioneers who laid the first brick, we owe the beginnings. To you – those who carry this mission forward, we owe the continuity and confidence in the future. Happy birthday!”.
