Monsson launches Scandinavian climate-optimized energy storage solution for the Swedish market

    Published on

Monsson, an international renewable energy solutions group specializing in wind and solar energy, energy storage and green hydrogen, headquartered in Romania, has developed an energy storage solution optimized for the Scandinavian climate at the request of its Swedish subsidiary, Monsson Energi AB.

The cold Nordic winter climate has a set of specific requirements for energy supply and storage, and to ensure the long-term stability of the Swedish energy system, battery-based energy storage technology must be adapted to withstand extreme temperatures, which could otherwise negatively affect both performance and service life.

“We at Monsson have developed an energy storage solution optimized for the Scandinavian climate, which guarantees reliable energy storage, whether as part of a hybrid project or as a standalone system,” said Joanna Lilliequist, CEO of Monsson Energi AB.

“At the beginning of April 2024, Monsson inaugurated in Constanța County the largest electricity storage unit installed and produced in Romania, the battery system being made by the Prime company. Now, in 2025, we have developed together with our European partners an energy storage system specific to the Scandinavian market, which we launched for the first time in Sweden,” said Sebastian Enache, Head of M&A and member of the Board of Directors at Monsson.

The Romanian company has developed an intelligent SCADA system for technical operations and commercial management in such a way that operational disruptions are minimal.

Unlike container-based systems, Monsson installs batteries in customized and well-insulated structures, creating a stable environment indoors. Maintaining a constant temperature of 20–22 degrees Celsius in the battery room increases the efficiency of the plants, extends the battery life, reduces maintenance requirements and allows for easier service throughout the year.

“The storage systems are fully automated and remotely controlled, minimizing maintenance efforts and reducing operating costs. Because operational reliability is a priority, Monsson has developed innovative solutions for emergency situations. Our systems have multiple levels of monitoring and fire protection and can maintain an inert gas environment in the battery room for several days if necessary, making them one of the safest storage solutions on the market,” explained the CEO of Monsson Energi AB.

By using key components produced in Europe, long-term operating costs are kept low. The battery storage system developed by Monsson can easily be adapted to new future battery technologies, such as solid-state or sodium-based batteries.
