Energy Minister Burduja: “Romania’s new energy strategy will have cybersecurity component, will be ready in spring 2024”
Romania’s new energy strategy will have a cyber security component and will be finalized next spring, according to Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja.
“As former Minister of Digitalization and current Minister of Energy, I believe that the two sectors are deeply interconnected and have a special stake. The subject of cyber security in the Romanian energy sector must be addressed. We all have this energy trilemma: we want safe energy, we want energy at the most affordable price and we want greenest energy. But the most important thing is to have energy security. If the light bulb does not light up when we press the switch, there is no quality of life, there is no economic development, there is nothing,” Sebastian Burduja, Minister of Energy, said during Cibersecurity in Energy Forum organized by Distributie Energie Electrica Romania.
“Energy is the heart of the economy and certainly cyber security is part of the concept of safe energy.
The entire paradigm in the energy sector leads us to a 3D system: decentralized, digitized, decarbonized. Decentralization and digitization make us on the one hand more resilient, but on the other hand more vulnerable if we don’t pay attention to the aspect of cyber security.
We must emphasize awareness and education. Cyber security is a chain in which the weakest link is the most important. That link is often the simple user of an IT system.
We need to hold preparation and training sessions for civil servants in ministries, to teach them how to work with digital documents so that they do not open suspicious files and do not endanger the entire energy system.”
