Corneliu Bodea, Adrem: “Romania’s decline in energy security is based on a lack of investment in electricity generation”

    Published on

“In the last decade, Romania’s energy security has suffered a decline. We must acknowledge this. Regarding what follows, things are in a fantastic technological dynamic. We are talking about another type of network. I think that there is a chance for Romania to orient itself intelligently and to enroll in another cycle of progress.

I notice something worrying. Romania’s decline in energy security is based on a lack of investment in electricity generation, exploration of new fields, and modernization of energy infrastructure,” Corneliu Bodea, CEO Adrem & President Romanian Energy Center (CRE) said during the Energy CEO Forum 2021 organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.

“This lack of investment has brought a side effect, a lack of work capacity in the industry, an exodus of specialists. The lack of investments can only lead to the degradation of this level of builders in the energy field. This is an alarm signal for the next 10 years.

If we had a clear concept of energy development, we should ask ourselves with whom we will be able to complete this project. I am worried about the next 10 years, but optimistic about the resources that Romania still has.

Decentralization is linked to digitalization, an essential element for the step towards decentralization. The focus that ANRE should have in relation to energy infrastructure should be on stimulating the investments of transport operators in digitalization.

Decarbonization is an extremely important issue. Decarbonization in the field of electricity production will have to follow some steps. One stage will be to remove coal and use gas as a transition fuel, during which time we will have to develop other technologies, including hydrogen.

The price of energy will rise to the point where we will become aware that we need to reduce consumption and that we need to invest in energy efficiency projects.

The CEO Forum brings together the decision makers at the Governmental level and civil society and C-level business leaders in the energy sector. The Forum joins on the same stage senior figures, experts and the most knowns specialists in the field, to discuss some of the most pressing aspects of the industry today.
