Nuclearelectrica announces the controlled shutdown of Unit 1 from Cernavoda NPP for remediation works

    Published on

Nuclearelectrica (SNN) announces that Cernavoda NPP Unit 1 will be shut down in a controlled manner during the night of Friday to Saturday (January 22 to January 23, 2021) in order to carry out remediation works as a result of a failure to the classical/secondary technological circuit of Unit 1.

The power reduction maneuvers will start on January 23, 2021, 0:01 HRS. The controlled shutdown of Unit 1, initially announced for the night of January 15 to January 16, 2021, was postponed on January 15 to ensure the electricity production necessary to the National Energy System due to very low temperatures.

“Both the postponement of the controlled shutdown and the controlled shutdown do not impact nuclear safety, personnel or population, the remediation works being done in compliance with the specific procedures. SNN will communicate the date on which Unit 1 will be reconnected to the National Energy System,” a release shows.
