    Romania is ready for the winter season, Energy Ministry says

    Romania is preparing for the winter season following the mandatory measures regarding the level of safety and security, the level of natural gas and coal stocks, as well as the level of accumulation lakes being in appropriate parameters, a release from the Energy Ministry shows.

    “There are 2.9 billion cubic meters in natural gas storage facilities; Coal stocks are at a level of 820 thousand tons; In terms of fuel stocks, compared to the previous year, both lignite stocks and the volume of gas stored have higher values; The degree of filling of hydropower accumulations is in average value of approx. 80% and the Danube flow is approx. 7000 m3 / s (in the Iron Gates section); In the generating sets, the last repair / remediation works are being completed;  Electricity and natural gas distribution operators are also prepared with reserve stocks, if necessary,” according to the authorities.

    “There are no problems in ensuring the consumption of natural gas and electricity during the cold season. The safe and stable functioning of the National Energy System but also of the entire energy sector in Romania, is a major priority in the sphere of main objectives of the Government in the context of the winter period 2020-2021.”
