Gas prices will fall starting July 1, Minister Popescu says
The Minister of Economy, Virgil Popescu, criticized the behavior of gas suppliers that “should come with better offers for the population”. He assured that prices would fall and that legislation would be amended to strengthen competition in this area.
“I do not think there is a better time than now to liberalize the price of natural gas when the price on European and regional markets is down,” said the minister. And it does not come alone, liberalization comes with a release gas package through which producers are forced to sell at a starting price for auction at the market price in Vienna which is very low. We promised through the Government Program that we will lower prices. You will see that from July 1 gas prices will fall. The fact that some offer the same prices in mockery does not mean that it will remain so.”
The gas market will be liberalized on July 1, regulated prices will disappear, and each household customer will have to choose an offer from the current supplier or another.
