HELLENiQ ENERGY is accelerating its renewable energy expansion in Romania, with plans to develop at least 500 MW of battery energy storage capacity over the next three years.
Through its subsidiary, HELLENiQ Renewables Romania, the Group is advancing a portfolio of hybrid solar and wind projects incorporating battery storage, alongside standalone storage installations.
As part of this strategy, the company is assessing the addition of battery storage systems to existing and operational photovoltaic parks, with a potential combined capacity of 170 MW / 680 MWh. These investments are expected to enhance operational flexibility and improve the commercial performance of renewable energy assets.
“Incorporating storage into our renewable energy projects is a key priority for our growth in Romania. In several cases, hybrid solutions have already helped us secure more favorable grid connection terms, both in terms of cost and timing. We are also evaluating standalone battery storage investments, considering evolving market conditions,” said Mihai Darie, Director of HELLENiQ Renewables Romania.
Following the commissioning of its first two photovoltaic parks in Teleorman and Olt counties, with a combined capacity of 58 MW in March 2026, the Group brought a third, 63 MW solar park into operation in Giurgiu County in September and the fourth with a current capacity of 59MW in Dolj County in October (to be further expanded to 90MW), increasing its total operational renewable energy capacity in Romania to 180 MW.
Meanwhile, construction of the 96 MW Ansthall wind farm in Galați County is progressing, with eight of its fifteen Vestas wind turbines already installed.
The Group’s renewable energy development portfolio in Romania is expected to reach approximately 850 MW, encompassing solar, wind and energy storage projects. Romania remains a strategic market for HELLENiQ ENERGY’s regional expansion, with investments focused on developing a diversified and resilient clean energy portfolio.
