IKEA to invest 130 million euros in Romania over the next three years

    Published on

IKEA Romania is entering a new phase of development, announcing an investment of approximately 130 million euros over the next three years. The plan includes 125 million euros for expansion and development projects, alongside an additional 4.4 million euros invested in price reductions during fiscal year 2027.

Over the next three years, the 125 million euros investment will support the expansion and development of IKEA Romania’s operations. Approximately 55 million euros will be allocated to expanding the network, with 10 new customer meeting points planned in Bucharest and other cities where IKEA already operates, including Cluj-Napoca, Iași and Sibiu, as well as new locations such as Craiova, Pitești and Galați. The remaining 70 million euros will strengthen existing operations, including more than €60 million earmarked for the modernization of the IKEA Băneasa store, alongside investments in technology, automation and sustainability.

IKEA is also exploring opportunities to develop smaller-format locations in partnership with retailers and shopping centres already present in Romania, in line with Ingka Group’s strategy of expanding this concept.

“Romania has been an important market for IKEA for almost 20 years, and this new phase of investment reflects our confidence in its long-term potential. We want to bring IKEA closer to as many people as possible while making the customer experience simpler and more accessible. We are investing both in our traditional formats and in smaller formats which, complemented by digital solutions and services, bring us closer to our customers and their needs. At the same time, price affordability remains a priority for us and an important part of how we are developing responsibly in Romania,” said Ekaterina Egorova, CEO & CSO of IKEA South East Europe.

The modernization of the IKEA Băneasa store in Bucharest will be carried out in several stages, allowing the store to remain operational while minimizing disruption for customers. Construction work is scheduled to begin in spring 2027. The project aims to create a more modern and efficient space, offering greater inspiration and improved experience for both customers and employees. IKEA Băneasa remains one of the company’s most important customer destinations, attracting more than 2 million visitors annually and accounting for nearly 50% of the total visitor traffic across IKEA’s three stores in Romania.

IKEA currently operates three stores in Romania—two in Bucharest and one in Timișoara—alongside six Planning and Order Studios in Bucharest (Orhideea and Grand Arena), Constanța, Cluj-Napoca, Brașov and Iași, as well as five order pick-up points in Brașov, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Sibiu and Bucharest.
