STRABAG SE has successfully completed the acquisition of 100% of the shares in BAWI Construction SRL, a Bucharest-based company specialised in railway infrastructure services. The transaction was announced in July 2026, has now reached closing following the receipt of all required regulatory approvals and takes effect from 30 September 2026.

BAWI provides railway infrastructure services across a broad range of activities, including construction, modernisation, specialised railway works and in-house component production. The company’s technical expertise, local market knowledge and established customer relationships complement STRABAG’s existing railway infrastructure activities in Romania.

Following the closing, BAWI will continue its operations under its existing brand and name, maintaining its current business activities and relationships with customers and business partners. The company will continue participating in relevant tenders and pursuing new business opportunities in the Romanian railway infrastructure market.

BAWI’s experienced management team will remain in place, supporting operational continuity and a smooth transition for employees, customers and business partners.

The acquisition expands STRABAG’s capabilities in a market supported by significant investment in railway modernisation and European funding programmes. It also strengthens the Group’s platform for further development in the region.

Attila Rácz, Technical Subdivision Manager, STRABAG: BAWI brings valuable local experience and practical insight into railway infrastructure projects in Romania. This perspective will support our approach to value engineering, helping us identify efficient, project-specific solutions that respond to technical requirements and local conditions. Together, we can further strengthen the way we prepare and deliver railway infrastructure projects in the country.”

Marko Milosevic, Commercial Subdivision Manager, STRABAG: People are at the centre of this acquisition. BAWIs experience, local knowledge and established relationships are built on the work of its management team and employees. Our aim is to preserve this strength while creating new opportunities for collaboration and development within STRABAG’s railway infrastructure activities in Romania.”
