- The 99.2 MW Green Breeze Wind Farm in Galați County is now delivering renewable electricity to the Romanian grid. This is the largest project completed by Nala Renewables to date
- Apple secures renewable energy from the project through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA)
The Green Breeze Wind Farm, financed by Banca Comercială Română (BCR) and Erste Group, has reached commercial operation. Owned by Nala Renewables, the project has an installed capacity of 99.2 MW and is now delivering renewable electricity to the Romanian grid.
Located mainly in the municipality of Cuca in Galați County, the wind farm consists of 16 Vestas V162-6.2 MW turbines and is expected to generate approximately 312 GWh of renewable electricity annually, enough to supply around 51,000 households and avoid approximately 150,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year. Construction started in mid-November 2024, and the wind farm was energised and connected to the grid in May 2026.
“Green Breeze was one of the first projects we financed in Romania’s new wave of renewable energy, and today it is delivering clean power to the grid and strengthening the country’s energy security. As the leading banking partner for energy projects in Romania, we are proud of an excellent collaboration with Nala Renewables from day one,” says Bogdan Cernescu, Director Corporate Banking, BCR.
“Green Breeze reflects our ability to execute and deliver critical utility scale infrastructure projects, and I am proud to share that this is our largest project to date to achieve commercial operation,” says Remy Verot, Interim CEO, Nala Renewables.
Swedish company OX2 developed the project and is responsible for its turnkey construction and management, while financing and full ownership belong to Nala Renewables, owned by IFM Investors.
Green Breeze will supply clean energy to Apple through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA). The project underlines Romania’s growing importance as a destination for renewable energy investments and as a partner for global companies pursuing ambitious decarbonisation targets.
“We are proud to have supported Nala Renewables in bringing the Green Breeze wind farm to completion. Seeing a global company such as Apple commit to sourcing renewable energy from this project sends a strong signal about the attractiveness of Romania’s renewable energy market and its importance within Europe’s energy transition,” says Markus Kriegler, Head of Group Corporates at Erste Group Bank AG.
BCR, the leading banking partner for energy projects in Romania
In the first eight months of 2026, Banca Comercială Română (BCR) provided EUR 535 million in financing for energy sector projects in Romania, of which EUR 360 million went exclusively to renewable generation capacity. Over the past six years, the bank has also tripled its energy financing, from EUR 930 million to almost EUR 3 billion.
