Hidroelectrica reports net profit of 2.57 billion RON, up 62 percent in first half of 2026

    Published on

Hidroelectrica recorded a net profit of 2.57 billion RON in the first half of 2026, up 62% compared with the same period last year, while revenues rose by 40% to 6.04 billion RON and net electricity production increased by 17%, according to a report submitted to the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB).

Hidroelectrica pursued a prudent commercial policy, actively managed price and volume risks and dynamically adjusted its production–procurement mix, maintaining a solid financial position and results aligned with developments in the energy markets.

“The supply portfolio continued to grow, confirming the repositioning towards a hybrid model, with stronger commercial anchoring and an expanded customer base. Market purchases increased, with market risk managed through phased contracting and commercial discipline,” the company said.

Operational efficiency, optimization of the production–procurement mix, the development of renewable energy sources (RES) and energy storage projects remain among the Group’s priorities. These initiatives are aimed at reducing structural exposure to hydrological variability and strengthening long-term resilience.

Hidroelectrica’s revenues totaled RON 6.047 billion, 40% above the level recorded in the first half of 2025. The company reported an operating margin of 48% and a net margin of 43%, highlighting the competitive advantage generated by the relatively low cost of hydropower production.

At the same time, greater exposure to the wholesale electricity market and changes in the revenue structure, including a growing contribution from the supply segment, affected the level of margins.

As of June 30, 2026, Hidroelectrica’s electricity supply portfolio comprised 1,399,735 consumption points, an 83% increase from 766,256 consumption points recorded a year earlier. The portfolio expanded by 633,479 consumption points, reflecting both a significant increase in household customers and strong growth in the non-household segment.

The evolution of the portfolio confirms Hidroelectrica’s strengthening position in the competitive electricity supply market, driven by the growing commercial attractiveness of its offers and strong demand from both household and non-household customers.

The rapid expansion of the customer base has also significantly increased the volumes managed across the company’s supply operations, directly affecting contracting, billing, consumption data management, customer relations, as well as the handling of customer requests and complaints.

Hidroelectrica said that the continued development of its supply business, combined with investments in renewable energy and storage, will remain central to its strategy as the company seeks to strengthen its market position and improve its resilience to fluctuations in hydrological conditions.
