Hidroelectrica marks 2025 as best investment year in recent history

    Published on

Hidroelectrica has released its 2025 annual report, a year marked by challenging hydrological conditions.

In 2025, Hidroelectrica invested a total of 781 million lei, up 32% from 2024—the best year for investments in the company’s history. This record level reflects accelerated programs for modernization, retechnologization, and development of new production capacities, aligning with the strategy to solidify Hidroelectrica’s position as Romania’s leader in renewable energy.

The investment performance stands out especially given the year’s toughest hydrological conditions in recent history. The first nine months saw low hydraulic levels that significantly limited production capacity. Hydro production dropped 14% from 2024, marking Romania’s lowest hydro output ever.

Despite this, Hidroelectrica posted solid financials, proving the resilience of its business and management model. Revenues reached 9.6 billion lei, a 5% increase year-over-year, with consolidated net profit at 3.37 billion lei—achieved amid reduced production and tough market conditions. These figures place Hidroelectrica at the top of Romania’s most profitable companies.

Results exceeded budget expectations, with net profit 10% above the revised budget, driven by a strong Q4 recovery. The company’s net margin hit 35%, keeping it among Romania’s most profitable firms and underscoring operational efficiency and financial discipline.

“2025 was one of the most difficult years hydrologically, but the results confirm our solid business model and the Hidroelectrica team’s ability to manage challenges and perform in complex conditions. The recovery in the latter part of the year stemmed from careful water resource management, paired with an effective energy sales strategy and commercial portfolio optimization. I want to emphasize that 2025 was the company’s best investment year, showing we honor our commitments on infrastructure modernization, new capacity development, and strengthening Hidroelectrica’s position. We continue accelerated investments to ensure Romania’s energy security and generate sustainable value for our shareholders,” said Bogdan Badea, CEO of Hidroelectrica.

Throughout 2025, Hidroelectrica strengthened its market position, including expanding its supply portfolio to 1.16 million consumption points—nearly double the previous year. This reflects the appeal of its offers and consumer trust in the company.

Hidroelectrica is Romania’s largest renewable energy producer, operating 188 hydroelectric plants with a total capacity of 6.4 GW, plus the 108 MW Crucea wind farm. It also ranks first nationally among electricity suppliers by client portfolio size.
