    Romanian farmers’ league calls for agriculture to be recognized as a strategic national sector

    Published on

    The League of Agricultural Producers’ Associations of Romania (LAPAR) called on Friday for agriculture to be officially recognized as a strategic sector of national interest, for public policies to be based on socio-economic impact studies, and for the launch of a structured institutional dialogue between the Government and representative farmers’ organizations.

    “2026 must be approached with responsibility, but also with determination. We need coherent policies, legislative stability, predictable financing, and a national vision that places agriculture at the center of Romania’s development,” LAPAR said in a statement.

    According to the organization, LAPAR continues to advocate for:

    • fair treatment of Romanian farmers within European policies;
    • recognition of agriculture’s strategic role in the economy and food security;
    • investment in production, processing, and storage to add value within Romania;
    • genuine dialogue with authorities, based on data, impact studies, and practical solutions.

    “At the beginning of the year, Romanian agriculture remains, as always, the backbone of the national economy and social stability, despite a difficult context marked by economic pressure, climate change, geopolitical instability, and European policies that are often insufficiently adapted to realities on the ground. 2025 was a year of resilience and responsibility. Romanian farmers continued to produce food for the population, sustain the rural economy, and support Romania’s and the European Union’s food security, even as costs rose and predictability declined,” the statement said.

    LAPAR believes that agriculture is not just an economic sector, but “a national strategic asset, an expression of sovereignty, labor, and the continuity of this country.”
