Verbund acquires 272 MW wind project in Romania from Monsson

    Published on

Verbund Wind Power Romania, the Romanian subsidiary of Austrian energy company Verbund, has acquired a fully developed wind project from Monsson, a multinational renewable energy solutions group specializing in wind and solar energy, energy storage and green hydrogen.

The wind project is located in Caras-Severin County, has a total capacity of 272 MW and an estimated annual generation of approximately 569 GWh. The project has been acquired at the “Ready to Build” stage, with all relevant permits and connection points, and is expected to enter its construction phase in 2026.

“We are happy and proud to have started this cooperation with VERBUND, Austria’s leading electricity company and one of the largest producers of hydropower electricity in Europe. As we have anticipated for some time, the need of clean energy as a focal point of Romania’s and Europe’s electricity sector is increasing” says Sebastian Enache, board member of Monsson.

Verbund has been active in Romania since 2012 through the operation of its 226 MW Casimcea wind farm in Tulcea County.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Monsson, a well-known and respected company in Romania, in this project acquisition and look forward to future opportunities that can promote the acceleration of the energy transition in our country. At VERBUND, we are continuously seeking to drive growth in the Romanian clean energy sector, in alignment with our sustainable business approach” said Adrian Borotea, VERBUND Wind Power Romania managing director.

Verbund’s 2030 corporate strategy is to significantly expand solar and wind power so that 25% of the group’s total generation will be produced from photovoltaic and wind onshore sources by the year 2030. Romania has been defined as one of the company’s strategic target markets for the achievement of this goal.
