PPC Group expands into Poland with a 277.3 MW renewables portfolio

    Published on

PPC Group marks its entry into the Polish energy market through an agreement to acquire a portfolio of wind and solar projects with a total capacity of 277.3 MW.

The agreement with EDP Renewables Polska Sp. z o.o. and EDP Renewables Polska HoldCo S.A. represents another step towards the implementation of PPC Group’s new strategic growth plan for the 2026–2030 period, which envisages a dynamic 24 billion euros investment program aimed at nearly doubling the Group’s installed capacity.

The strategic entry into the Polish market further strengthens PPC Group’s leading position across the wider region and lays the groundwork for creating an integrated regional clean energy platform spanning from Greece to Central and Southeastern Europe. At the same time, it enhances the geographical and technological diversification of the Group’s generation portfolio, mitigating operational risk and maximizing portfolio value.

The acquired portfolio is characterized by high technological diversification and an exceptional revenue profile, with all projects having an estimated operational lifetime of 35 years.

    Specifically, it includes:

    • Operating wind projects (130.5 MW): Three operational wind farms located in Ilza (54 MW), Tomaszow (46.5 MW) and Poturzyn (30 MW), with high-capacity factors of up to 33%.
    • Operating solar projects (44.9 MW): Two solar parks located in Pakoslaw (25.1 MW) and Recz (19.8 MW). These projects provide strong protection against electricity price volatility, benefiting from long-term fixed-price contracts during their initial years of operation.
    • Cable pooling projects under development (101.9 MW): Two solar projects, Ilza CP (50.9 MW) and Tomaszow CP (51.0 MW), expected to become operational in 2029. These projects will utilise the cable pooling model, sharing the same grid connection infrastructure as the existing wind farms. This technology enables optimal utilisation of grid capacity, reduces grid connection constraints and delivers significant synergies through the complementary generation profiles of wind and solar energy.

The completion of the transactions is subject to the satisfaction of customary conditions precedent for transactions of this nature, including, among others, obtaining the necessary approvals from the relevant supervisory authorities.

    The Polish energy market

Poland is one of Europe’s most dynamic clean energy markets, recording an impressive average annual renewable energy growth rate exceeding 17% during the 2016–2025 period. The country is implementing an ambitious energy transition program, targeting more than 50% of its electricity generation from renewable energy sources by 2030. At the same time, the introduction of the pioneering legal framework for cable pooling, effective October 1, 2023, establishes an exceptionally attractive and secure environment for modern, large-scale investments that optimize grid infrastructure.

Konstantinos Mavros, PPC Group Deputy CEO for Renewables, stated: “Just days after announcing our entry into the Hungarian market, today we are announcing our expansion into the highly promising Polish market, taking another major step in implementing our strategy for PPC Group’s next phase of growth across Central and Southeastern Europe. Under our new strategic plan through 2030, we are targeting high-potential markets such as Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, with the objective of developing 2.2 GW of renewable energy and storage projects. By acquiring this highly balanced 277.3 MW portfolio, we are integrating valuable assets into our portfolio while further expanding our geographical footprint.”
