Sphera Group has acquired the franchising rights to open restaurants in Romania, and it will carry out the plan through a new subsidiary, wholly owned by Sphera Franchise Group.

“This new addition in our portfolio marks another important milestone for Sphera Franchise Group as we continue to strengthen and diversify our brand ecosystem,” said Călin Ionescu, CEO, Sphera Franchise Group. “wagamama is a globally respected brand with a differentiated positioning, strong operational model, and broad consumer appeal. Its entry into Romania aligns with our strategy to expand into high-potential segments and deliver new dining experiences to the local market.”

Founded in London in 1992, wagamama operates an international network of restaurants and is recognized for its Asian-inspired menu, efficient service model, and contemporary design concept.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with such a strong and passionate team at Sphera Group to bring wagamama to Romania,” said Francisco Neves, Senior Vice President Franchise & Partnerships at wagamama. “It’s an exciting market for us and a brilliant opportunity to share the energy of wagamama — from our food and flavours to the way we make people feel — with a whole new audience.”

The first wagamama restaurant in Romania will open in Bucharest towards the end of 2026 – early 2027, bringing the brand’s globally established fast-casual dining concept to Romanian consumers.
