Apa Nova to invest over 49 million euros in 2026 to modernize water and sewer infrastructure and improve energy efficiency in Bucharest

    Published on

Apa Nova Bucharest has announced an investment program exceeding 49 million euros for 2026, with funds directed toward network modernization—in coordination with major investment programs carried out by the Bucharest City Hall—as well as service digitalization and increased energy efficiency.

Of the total amount, 30.6 million euros will be allocated to projects included in the New Mandatory Investment Program (NPIO), a long-term initiative running through 2031 with a total value of 230.9 million euros. The program focuses on expanding and modernizing water supply and sewer networks. These investments are considered essential for the functioning of a rapidly growing metropolitan area, as Bucharest currently has more than 4,900 km of water and sewer networks.

“We are continuing the modernization of water and sewer infrastructure at a sustained pace. The 2026 investments are focused on improving system performance and adapting services to the needs of a city in constant transformation. Over more than 25 years of concession, the investments made have transformed Bucharest’s water and sewer system into a modern, digitalized infrastructure aligned with European standards,” said Mădălin Mihailovici, CEO of Apa Nova Bucharest.

In parallel, around 2.5 million euros will be allocated for replacement and rehabilitation works on drinking water and sewer networks, as well as modernization of hydraulic structures and installations. Another 2.1 million euros is planned for network expansion projects outside the NPIO framework.

The 2026 investment plan also includes projects aimed at digitalization and improving the energy efficiency of operational infrastructure. Approximately 3.9 million euros will be invested in integrating state-of-the-art equipment and technologies into drinking water production plants, pumping stations, and the Glina Wastewater Treatment Plant, where photovoltaic panels, a biogas storage tank, and upgraded technological equipment are planned.

At the same time, smart metering and remote reading systems will continue to expand, with 1.7 million euros allocated for this component. Additional budgets will also support retooling, equipment upgrades, and modern machinery.
