Distribuție Energie Electrică Romania (DEER) signed a major EU funding contract totaling approximately 20 million euros, for the project “DEER Telecontrol System Modernization and ADMS Implementation.”
The strategic investment upgrades the electricity distribution network across DEER’s 18 counties by deploying an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS). It modernizes and expands the SCADA system, boosting network visibility, control, and service quality for users.
In the energy transition era, ADMS supports greater integration of renewables like solar and wind. It manages production variability, optimizes energy flows, and increases grid capacity for new producers.
Mihaela Rodica Suciu, DEER General Director, stated: “This project is a key step in digitalizing our distribution network and turning it into smart infrastructure ready for energy transition challenges. ADMS significantly enhances monitoring and control, improves user services, and supports renewable integration. Tech investments, paired with our team’s expertise, build a modern, safe, and sustainable energy system.”
The project also boosts energy efficiency, cuts carbon emissions, and aligns with national and EU decarbonization goals. It develops dynamic smart grids for consumers and prosumers, strengthening DEER’s role in Romania’s energy infrastructure transformation.
Non-reimbursable funding includes 83,211,643.79 lei from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and 14,684,407.73 lei from the national budget via the Sustainable Development Program.
