Distribuție Energie Electrică Romania (DEER) has inaugurated the second investment project from the Modernization Fund, titled “Modernization of 20kV Overhead Line Sighet-Teceu, 20kV Overhead Line Sighet-Costui, and 20kV Overhead Line Sighet-Radio Vad.” This is a strategically important initiative for modernizing and developing the electricity distribution network in Maramureș County.
The investment, totaling 66.8 million lei—of which 51.4 million lei in non-reimbursable funds—is the second major project financed by the European Commission through the Modernization Fund.
Following the investment, users will benefit from electricity distribution services at high standards of safety, reliability, and continuity across 10 Administrative Units (the communes of Sarasău, Câmpulung la Tisa, Săpânța, Bocicoiu Mare, Rona de Jos, Rona de Sus, Bârsana, Strâmtura, Poienile Izei, Botiza, Rozavlea), plus part of Sighetu Marmației city.
This investment enables more efficient integration of renewable energy from both existing and new power plants. It will also improve energy efficiency by optimizing technological own consumption, reducing the number and duration of power outages, and enabling connections for new consumers and producers.
“The completion of the ‘Modernization of 20kV Overhead Lines Sighet-Teceu, Sighet-Costui, and Sighet-Radio Vad’ project represents a significant step toward strengthening the energy infrastructure in Maramureș County and supporting the transition to a modern, sustainable energy system. Through this investment, DEER actively contributes to improving the quality of distribution services for over 18,000 users, as well as the socio-economic development of the region. Today, we are not just marking the end of an investment—we are reaffirming, with institutional rigor and responsibility, the strategic direction that DEER consistently pursues: building a modern, safe energy infrastructure oriented toward the real needs of communities.
For us, this moment is more than a single result. It is the expression of an ongoing effort, built with perseverance, vision, and high professional standards, where each stage lays the foundation for what comes next.
We know that infrastructure develops through well-calibrated investments and decisions, but its true value lies in the people who support it, day by day, through competence and responsibility, turn projects into functional reality.
Therefore, I extend my sincere thanks to my colleagues on the DEER team, our partners at Electromat, as well as central authorities—the Ministry of Energy and ANRE—and county and local public administration institutions for their solid collaboration, trust, and essential contribution to achieving this goal,” stated Mihaela Suciu, General Director of DEER.
