Mark Twain International School, together with Partener Construct Logistic and a group of specialized real estate investors, is starting works on its new flagship campus near Bucharest.
Developed under the umbrella of Romania Education Alliance and through a EUR 30 million investment, the new 6-hectare school campus is conceived as a complete ultramodern natural and educational ecosystem — from early years to high school — dedicated to families in northern Bucharest, Ilfov and Prahova. The opening is planned for no later than autumn 2028.
Spread across 6 hectares on the shore of Lake Cociovaliștea, at the intersection of DN1 and Strada Institutului, the new Mark Twain IS campus will offer premium education as an IB World School and will deliver a dual curriculum (bilingual and international) throughout the entire pre-university journey — from early education, kindergarten and primary school to middle school and high school.
Designed for a capacity of 1,500 students aged between 1.5 and 18, the campus will offer both the national curriculum, fully accredited by ARACIP, and the International Baccalaureate programmes (Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme, Diploma Programme), alongside Cambridge English and Cambridge International accreditations for primary and secondary levels. Students will have the option to sit either the Romanian National Baccalaureate or the International Baccalaureate at the end of their studies.
„The new campus in Balotești is a major step in the expansion of Mark Twain IS and a benchmark for Romania’s education system. Inspired by the free and courageous spirit of Mark Twain, this space will be built to support authentic learning and the harmonious development of every child, in an environment that places emphasis on curiosity, balance and connection with the world around them. It is the second campus we have been developing since laying the foundations of Romania Education Alliance together with Morphosis Capital, an initiative that has given us access to the investments needed to support the expansion of Mark Twain IS in Bucharest and Ilfov”, said Anca Macovei Vlăsceanu, Co-Founder and CEO of Romania Education Alliance and Founder and General Manager of Mark Twain International School.
„The accelerated development of Mark Twain International School, through the opening of campuses in key areas of Ilfov and northern Bucharest, has been a strategic priority within Romania Education Alliance. The need for a premium educational alternative in this area had long been felt, and we are honoured to support Mark Twain IS in this important stage of expansion. At the same time, we are exploring similar partnership opportunities with high-performing schools in the country’s major cities, which we can support in their development process,” said David Masculic, CFA, Investment Manager, Morphosis Capital.
The campus will include four main buildings — nursery-kindergarten, school-high school, sports complex and cultural centre — with a total built area of 15,000 sqm. These will be arranged around a central courtyard — the campus agora — conceived as a space for interaction and socialization for the school community.
The sports complex is designed on two levels and will include a multifunctional sports hall, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, as well as a fully equipped fitness and strength training room. These will be complemented by an integrated cultural centre, which will include a venue for theatre, events, conferences and art exhibitions.
