    Delgaz Grid obtained European funding for an investment of 145 million lei (29 million euros) necessary to supply electricity to the future Iași Regional Emergency Hospital

    Published on

    • Of the total value, 120 million lei (24 million euros) represents non-reimbursable European funding, and 25 million lei (5 million euros) is the contribution of Delgaz Grid;

    • A new transformer station and the energy infrastructure to connect it to the existing networks will be built.

    The distribution company Delgaz Grid, part of the E.ON group in Romania, has signed a financing contract worth a total of approximately 145 million lei (29 million euros) for the electricity supply of the future Regional Emergency Hospital (SRU) Iași, a medical unit that will serve the inhabitants of the North-East Region of Romania.

    The project benefits from non-reimbursable European funding of approximately 120 million lei (24 million euros) from the European Regional Development Fund through the Sustainable Development Programme, Priority Axis “Promoting energy efficiency, smart energy systems and networks and reducing greenhouse gas emissions”, with the specific objective “Developing smart energy systems, networks and storage systems outside the Trans-European Energy Network (TEN-E)”.

    “It is Delgaz Grid’s largest investment to date for a single site. In addition to supplying the Regional Emergency Hospital, an objective of strategic importance for the Moldovan area, the investment also contributes to the energy security of the region and to increasing the quality of distribution services for the consumers served. In addition, as it is a non-reimbursable financing, the associated costs are not reflected in the consumers’ bills,” says Cristian Secoșan, General Manager of Delgaz Grid.

    The investment will allow the connection to the electricity grid of consumers in an area of strategic interest (SRU, Brain Institute, sports and educational infrastructure), but also facilitate the connection of future production capacities from renewable sources, thus contributing to increasing the energy autonomy of the North-East region.

    Additionally, the works will also have the effect of increasing the quality of distribution services, reducing own technological consumption and environmental impact, thus contributing to the transition to a safe, flexible and sustainable Smart Grid.

    The main works included in the project are:

    • Construction of a new 110/20 kV transformer station, equipped with two 25 MVA transformers;
    • Modernization of 1.5 km of high voltage power lines (110 KV) and construction of 8.6 km of new lines;
    • Modernization of 4.8 km of medium voltage lines (20 KV) and construction of 16.6 km of new lines;
    • Modernization of 16 transformer stations and construction of 6 new transformer stations;
    • Installation of 2,886 new connections;
    • Implementation of an integrated SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system for real-time remote monitoring and operation of the entire newly created infrastructure.

    The project will be carried out in the period 2026 – 2029, in parallel with the construction of the SRU, and the actual start of field works is planned for the fall of this year.

    Delgaz Grid pays special attention to attracting European funds to support investment programs, especially since, as these are non-reimbursable financing, these costs are not reflected in customer invoices.

    Currently, 15 such projects are underway, worth a total of 2.18 billion lei (436 million euros), of which 1.625 billion lei (325 million euros) is European funding. The projects target SMART metering, modernization of transformer stations, construction of new stations, modernization of networks at all voltage levels.
