“The Romanian kitchen furniture market is dominated by large retailers like IKEA, Mobexpert, and XXXLutz alongside numerous local no-name manufacturers, while the premium segment – where international brands like Nolte compete – remains relatively small and geographically concentrated in Bucharest and a few major cities.
From our vantage point in the premium segment, we observe a market in transition: growing purchasing power and increased exposure to European standards are driving demand for quality and long-term value, though aggregated market data for the premium segment specifically is limited. What we can confirm from our own business trajectory is that there is substantial room for expansion as Romanian consumers increasingly prioritize investment in their homes over transactional purchases,” Andreea Piperea, General Manager of Nolte Home Studio told The Diplomat-Bucharest.
“Looking toward 2026, we project annual growth of 15-20% supported by our national expansion strategy, with estimated investments of 70,000-100,000 euros per new showroom in cities such as Cluj, Timisoara, and Iasi. These targets are grounded in concrete initiatives: deeper market penetration in existing locations, the launch of our B2B professional programs for architects and designers and enhanced operational efficiency as our teams mature and processes scale, all while maintaining our commitment to premium service standards.”
How has Nolte Home Studio evolved in the last few years in terms of business strategy and market presence?
Over the past three years, Nolte Home Studio has achieved accelerated growth – from 2.96 million lei in 2023 to 4.41 million lei in 2024, with an estimated 5.5 million lei for 2025.
We have strengthened our premium positioning through three strategic directions: expanding our flagship showroom from 100 sqm to 300 sqm in a premium Bucharest location with investments of approximately 750,000 lei, developing strategic partnerships with real estate developers, in providing high quality integrated services and products, from design to implementation and implementing high service standards that create a differentiated client experience.
Our national expansion strategy is now in implementation, with concrete plans to open showrooms in Cluj, Timisoara, and Iasi during 2026-2028, supported by estimated investments of 75,000-100,000 euros per showroom annually.
What were your main objectives for 2025 and beyond?
Our objectives were and will continue to be structured across two complementary dimensions. Strategically, we were focused on three priorities: developing a comprehensive national expansion plan with clear implementation roadmaps for key cities, deepening our partnerships with premium real estate developers to integrate Nolte solutions from the early stages of residential projects and launching collaborative programs with architects and interior designers to establish Nolte as the preferred partner for design professionals.
On the execution front, our priority was strengthening our internal capabilities through continuous training and development of our design, sales, and installation teams, ensuring that every project is delivered to the highest standards of quality and client experience.
These dual priorities reflect our commitment to sustainable growth that balances ambitious market development with operational excellence.
How does your collaboration with Nolte Küchen in Germany influence your local business model and operations?
The partnership with Nolte Küchen is foundational to our business model, providing supply chain predictability, consistent manufacturing quality, long-term guarantees, and operational stability that are essential for competing in the premium segment. This collaboration influences our operations through systematic knowledge transfer: our team travels annually for training at Nolte headquarters; all our designers are Nolte-certified following the same standards as in Germany and we implement identical quality protocols from measurement to installation.
The alignment in values, quality standards, and long-term vision gives us credibility both with end customers and strategic partners, allowing us to build a local model based on reliability while maintaining the flexibility to adapt German precision to the specific needs of the Romanian market.
What was Nolte Home Studio’s turnover and profit in 2024?
In 2024, Nolte Home Studio recorded a turnover of 4.41 million lei (approximately 890,000 euros), representing a 50% increase compared to 2.96 million lei in 2023. While the profit margin decreased compared to the previous year due to strategic investments in team expansion and premium partnerships, this deliberate choice prioritized revenue growth and long-term brand consolidation over short-term profitability.
These results are particularly significant given the volatile market conditions marked by high inflation, increased production, and logistics costs of approximately 20% over the past two years, and broader economic uncertainty that affected consumer confidence throughout 2024.
How did these numbers compare to your expectations and to previous years?
The revenue growth exceeded our initial projections and represented near-doubling of the business over two years, driven primarily by our strategic partnerships in the residential project, which alone contributed significantly to this acceleration. While we absorbed increased costs to maintain competitiveness and stimulate growth—resulting in compressed margins—this was a calculated strategic decision aligned with our long-term vision. The trajectory from 2.96 million lei (2023) to 4.41 million lei (2024) demonstrates the strength of our premium positioning and validates our shift toward strategic B2B partnerships alongside our traditional B2C business, despite the challenging macroeconomic environment.
What are your financial targets or projections for 2025 and 2026?
For 2025, we are targeting a turnover of 5.5 million lei with a net profit of 550,000 lei, representing a doubling of profitability compared to 2024 and a profit margin of 10-12%. This growth will be sustained by our established strategic partnerships with premium developers and an expanding client base seeking quality solutions, with current year-to-date results tracking in line with these projections (Nov2025).
Looking toward 2026, we project annual growth of 15-20% supported by our national expansion strategy, with estimated investments of 70,000-100,000 euros per new showroom in cities such as Cluj, Timisoara, and Iasi. These targets are grounded in concrete initiatives: deeper market penetration in existing locations, the launch of our B2B professional programs for architects and designers and enhanced operational efficiency as our teams mature and processes scale, all while maintaining our commitment to premium service standards.
What factors do you believe will drive growth in the next two years?
I believe growth will be driven for Nolte business by three concrete factors: our national expansion with dedicated showrooms starting in 2026, the scaling of our strategic partnerships with premium developers and the development of our B2B programs targeting architects and interior designers who influence a significant portion of premium residential projects.
These initiatives are supported by continued premiumization of the Romanian market, where clients increasingly prioritize quality and long-term value over price and by our operational foundation—trained teams, proven processes, and strong brand recognition—that enables us to execute expansion efficiently.
How would you describe the current state of the kitchen furniture market in Romania?
The Romanian kitchen furniture market is dominated by large retailers like IKEA, Mobexpert, and XXXLutz alongside numerous local no-name manufacturers, while the premium segment—where international brands like Nolte compete—remains relatively small and geographically concentrated in Bucharest and a few major cities.
From our vantage point in the premium segment, we observe a market in transition: growing purchasing power and increased exposure to European standards are driving demand for quality and long-term value, though aggregated market data for the premium segment specifically is limited. What we can confirm from our own business trajectory is that there is substantial room for expansion as Romanian consumers increasingly prioritize investment in their homes over transactional purchases.
What are the dominant trends in kitchen design and layout that you are seeing among your clients?
We see clear preferences for open-concept kitchens with central islands, which have become multifunctional family space rather than purely kitchen areas. Also, clients increasingly favour refined minimalism—clean lines, handleless fronts, integrated appliances—combined with smart technology and discreet functionality.
At the same time, there is growing demand for natural, sustainable materials signalling a move away from simplistic approach toward more expressive kitchens.
Are Romanian customers more inclined toward modern, minimalist kitchens or more traditional styles?
The dominant preference is clearly toward modern, clean-lined designs, often softened by natural textures and warm materials. Traditional styles still exist but are increasingly reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. In Nolte portfolio there was a clear focus on modernizing the traditional collections and launches of new products in this segment happened consistently in the past 3-4 years.
How has customer behaviour changed in recent years?
Customer behaviour in Romania’s premium kitchen segment has evolved significantly: clients are far more informed, demanding, and strategic, approaching kitchen purchases as long-term assets rather than impulse decisions.
They now arrive with clear briefs, budgets, and visual references, often also accompanied by a designer (professional consultant). The focus has moved from price to value—durability, guarantees, reliability and professional project management—supported by strong demand for advanced 3D visualization, fully customized solutions and increasing scrutiny of long-term value. Family involvement and social media influence continue to shape expectations and design choices.
What do clients value the most when choosing a kitchen — price, quality, design, functionality, or something else?
Based on extensive client work, we see that the key decision factor is actually a mix of more criteria, a complex evaluation under the theme of long-term value evaluation.
Clients prioritize durability, intelligent functionality, and personalized design, assessing kitchens as 20-year investments and factoring in total cost of ownership and reliability. Price matters only when it is transparent and justified, while trust in the partner, quality of consultation and post-installation support often become the decisive differentiators.
What major projects or initiatives do you have planned for the next 12–24 months?
Our main initiatives include:
- opening new showrooms in key Romanian cities over the next 2-3 years
- expanding partnerships with premium residential developers,
- develop our collaboration programs with designers and architects
- and strengthening our internal resources: teams, processes, and procedures to ensure consistent and continuous high-level services.
What is your long-term vision for Nolte Home Studio in Romania?
Our long-term vision is for Nolte Home Studio to become the national benchmark for premium kitchen solutions in Romania. A brand recognized not only for German quality products, but for operational excellence, consistency and trust, delivered at scale without losing its human dimension
