Nova Power & Gas inaugurates Romania’s largest battery energy storage facility and starts construction of a 160 MW combined-cycle gas power plant

Nova Power & Gas, part of the E-INFRA Group, has announced the commissioning and start of commercial operations of the largest battery energy storage system (BESS) in Romania. The facility, located in Florești, Cluj County, has an installed power of 200 MW and a storage capacity of 400 MWh.

At the same time, the company announced the start of construction works on a 160 MW combined-cycle gas-fired power plant in Câmpia Turzii, a project scheduled to become operational by the end of 2026.

The total value of the two investments exceeds EUR 350 million.

Speaking at the inauguration event, Romania’s Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, stated:
“Energy storage is the infrastructure of the future and, at this moment, one of the most effective solutions to reduce imbalances in the system, better integrate energy produced by prosumers, and, most importantly, keep costs under control for Romanian consumers.
The Ministry of Energy encourages any investment—public or private—that creates value for the final consumer. We want Romanian energy companies to become regional champions, and Romania to be a pillar of stability in the region and a key partner of the United States. We will continue to improve the legislative framework necessary for such investments, while respecting the institutional roles and limits of the state. We will remain an open partner for all those who create value in Romania.”

“Electricity generation, energy storage, and balancing services define Nova Power & Gas’s investment strategy for the coming years. The company aims to become one of the leading players in electricity and gas production and supply in Romania, while also pursuing accelerated regional expansion in the years ahead,” said Teofil Mureșan, Founder and Chairman of the E-INFRA Group.

Nova Power & Gas is currently the national leader in battery storage capacity, with 240 MWh already operational. The company continues to expand its investment portfolio, which includes the development of a new 200 MW gas-fired power plant and more than 600 MW / 1,200 MWh in future energy storage projects.
