Distribuție Energie Electrică Romania (DEER) has announced the signing of the largest contract in its history, which involves the purchase and installation of 1.1 million smart meters across its distribution area. This strategic investment marks a major step in accelerating the digitalization of Romania’s energy infrastructure and modernizing distribution networks to meet future demands.
The new project is part of DEER’s strategy to implement modern metering solutions that provide customers with real-time access to consumption data, increase data accuracy, reduce network losses, and enable faster interventions in case of incidents.
“The signing of this contract represents a historic moment for our company and an important step toward the digital transformation of the network. Smart meters will bring direct benefits to users through increased transparency, efficiency, and improved services,” stated Mihaela Rodica Suciu, General Director of DEER.
The project implementation will begin in December 2025, and the installation of the 1.1 million smart meters will take place in stages, to be completed by the end of 2028.
With this investment, DEER reaffirms its commitment to modernizing the distribution infrastructure and actively contributing to national and European objectives regarding the energy transition and the digitalization of the energy sector.
