The data reveals clear shifts in customer behavior, product preferences, and delivery patterns, reflecting how Romanians adapt their habits to cope with the heat.
Cool cravings and summer essentials
Poultry-based meals have remained a staple, with top picks including the Maxi McChicken menu, McPuisor burger with pickled cucumber, Maxi Big Tasty menu, Chicken McNuggets, turkey kebab, and the classic cheeseburger.
However, ice cream and other frozen products stood out as the ultimate heatwave favorites, with demand increasing by up to 40 percent. Beverages, including water and cold soft drinks—also surged, alongside dairy products like milk, yogurt, and cheese, each category seeing a boost of up to 20 percent. A notable trend: increased orders of salads and pet products, suggesting Romanians are mindful not only of their own comfort but also that of their pets.
Order timing and volume
Thursdays and Fridays saw the highest ordering activity, with daily peaks observed between 11:00–12:00 and 18:00–19:00. During the heatwave, not only did the number of orders increase by 20 percent, but the total volume of products sold grew by around 15 percent, underlining the growing preference for delivery services during extreme weather.
Top-performing cities and categories
The most active cities during the hot spell were Bucharest, Timișoara, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, and Brașov.
In the grocery segment, fresh items such as vegetables and fruit—especially bananas, which dominated—topped the list. Mineral water was another staple, along with seasonal items like Romanian green onions and new white potatoes.
