Italian company Directa Plus, owner of SetCar in Romania, has plans to develop the local graphene market. Directa Plus is one of the largest producers and suppliers of graphene-based products for use in consumer and industrial markets worldwide.

Directa Plus and local partner companies can make Romania a true hub for Eastern Europe in graphene and for various technologies and products that use graphene, from the decontamination of polluted sites to the production of batteries,” said Giulio Cesareo, CEO of Directa Plus.
“Directa Plus is one of the pioneers in the use of graphene: we have 114 international patents in the technology, production and use of this innovative material and another 41 patents in the approval phase. We carry out projects in which composite materials with graphene nanoparticles are used in textiles, environmental solutions, decontamination, for roads, tires, paints, batteries of all sizes, etc.
Directa Plus uses a method that it has patented to produce “Graphene Plus” (G+®), a process that does not involve the use of chemicals or solvents and is based only on physical treatments of natural graphite.
One such application is represented by Grafysorber®, a super-expanded graphite, produced through its own patented technology, capable of absorbing 100 times its own weight, a solution that can be used to remove oil from the surface of water and soil, to prevent the spread of oil, but also other pollutants.
Grafysorber® production is carried out at the factory near Milan (Italy), but the company also has production units in Romania, through the SetCar subsidiary in Brăila. In addition, such Directa Plus – SetCar production units can also be located at customer locations, to reduce transportation costs, waste and delivery time.
Currently, one of the company’s strategic projects is the use of graphene for battery production.
