“One of the problems we see in the energy sector is that stakeholders fail to reach an agreement that will mean benefits for all parties involved.
Consumers have certain desires and expectations. Authorities have certain expectations from energy companies. Engineers have certain ideas about how the energy transition can happen. There are also investors who are ready to finance projects if certain conditions are met.
Each stakeholder believes that the other stakeholders do not understand them and most of the time the desires and expectations are not aligned,” Ondrej Safar, CEO Evryo Group & CEO Distributie Oltenia said at Energy CEO Forum organized by The Diplomat-Bucharest.
Key statements:
- The reality is that the energy sector is changing, and the change is massive because the technology has evolved. In the last 10-15 years, not much money has been invested in energy production in Europe. The last wave of investment in Europe was the renewables wave in 2008-2015. After that, investments decreased, one of the reasons being that the price of energy was decreasing.
- In 2008, the price of energy was 100 euros / MWh, and since then the price has been continuously decreasing, and this is not motivating for investments in energy production.
- We need to invest in new energy production capacities or modernize current capacities.
- Our company has a Horizon 2030 program through which we want to investigate, understand and test how this energy sector will be in the future. We want to have clear data. We have selected three regions where we have the highest share of prosumers and we are testing different solutions in a real way to find the most efficient long-term solutions for our customers.
- Prosumers can become completely independent in the future, and energy suppliers could become just service providers, but for this massive investments are needed in the energy sector. The energy sector was not designed for prosumers, and energy distributors need to invest massively. In the future we need investments in low voltage networks, which takes a lot of time and money.
