Distribuție Energie Electrică Romania (DEER), the country’s largest electricity distribution operator, signed a financing agreement for one of its strategic investments aimed at modernizing and digitalizing the electricity distribution infrastructure in Cluj County.
With a total value of RON 237.5 million, including VAT, the project will directly benefit approximately 80,000 residential and non-residential customers in the municipality of Cluj-Napoca and the commune of Florești. They will benefit from modernized and digitalized electricity infrastructure and distribution services delivered to high-performance standards.
“Investments in electricity distribution networks are investments in the development of communities and in Romania’s energy future. By signing this agreement, we are taking another important step in the direction we have committed to developing modern, smart and resilient infrastructure capable of meeting both current needs and the rapid transformations taking place across the energy sector.
This is an investment with a direct impact on approximately 80,000 customers in Cluj-Napoca and Florești. Increasing distribution capacity, digitalizing the network and implementing smart metering will ultimately lead to more efficient distribution services and a network better prepared to integrate an increasing volume of energy from renewable sources.
European funds are an essential accelerator of this process, and DEER continues to capitalize on these opportunities to transform and prepare the network for the future,” said Mihaela Rodica Suciu, CEO of DEER.
The project includes several major infrastructure works, including upgrading the medium-voltage network in Cluj-Napoca to 20 kV, constructing a new 110/20 kV transformer substation in Florești, and implementing a Smart Metering System across the locality of Florești.
The investments will directly benefit residential and non-residential customers in some of the most important areas of Cluj-Napoca, as well as customers in Florești, supporting the modernization, resilience and digital transformation of the local electricity distribution network.
