Gas prices liberalization in Romania to start in April

The Minister of Energy announced that the prices for domestic gas will go through a liberalization process starting April 1, with no technical reasons to postpone it, as Minister Toma Petcu said.

2017-03-30 15:11:07

"I have analysed all the observations and we have not found enough technical reasons for Romania to delay once again this process that should have been implemented starting 2007, the year when we joined the EU, with a series of possible risks," said Petcu. "The Commission is restarting the procedure through which the Romanian state can receive European fines but could also mean that Romania could lose 180 million Euro for the BRUA interconnector (Bulgaria - Romania - Hungary - Austria), much needed for the gas supply of Romania."

The Minister of Energy is confident that the liberalization process will bring more transparency on the gas trade market, both for consumers and operators.
