Airport Henri Coanda ranks 43rd in the EU according to the passengers traffic in 2014

The international airport Henry Coanda Bucuresti was situated last year 43rd in the EU after the number of passengers who transit it annually, show the data presented by the European Office for Statistics (Eurostat) and quoted by Act Media.

The biggest airport in Romania served 8,26 million passengers in 2014 going up by 8.9 per cent against 2013. Out of these, 6,4 million passengers arrived or left to destinations in the EU, 1.4 million with international destinations outside EU and 497,000 passengers represent domestic destinations. In 2014, the biggest airport in the EU was Heathrow London with traffic of 73.4 million passengers up by 1.4 per cent against 2013.Next are Charles de Gaule (63.7 million passengers), Frankfurt –Main (59.4 million passengers), Schiphol Amsterdam (55 million passengers) and Barajas Madrid (41.5 million passengers).

According to the Eurostat, 879.4 million passengers travelled last year by plane in the EU, and advance of 4.4 per cent as compared to 2013.All member states of the EU reported the increase of the number of passengers. The biggest number of people who travelled in 2014 by plane was recorded in the UK (220 million, up by 4.5 per cent against 2013), Germany (186 million, up by 3.1 per cent),Spain (165 million up by 4.8 per cent), France (142 million up by 2.6 per cent) and Italy (121 million up by 5.3).
In Romania, approximately 10.9 million passengers travelled by plane in 2014, up by 8.9 per cent against 2013. Out of these, 8.86 million passengers arrived or left from/to destinations in the EU, 1.54 million to international destinations outside the EU and 502,000 passengers represent domestic flights.
