Chimcomplex Borzesti to finalise a 14-million Euro plant

2015-10-18 18:56:40 - From the Print Edition

Romanian chemical manufacturer Chimcomplex Borzesti completed an investment of 14.35 million Euro into a unique plant in Romania in terms of energy efficiency, which allows the plant to significantly reduce utility cost, according to a press release of the company, quoted by Capital. "A team of specialists from Chimcomplex completed and put into operation in 2009 a revolutionary plant, which, fuelled with natural gas and hydrogen from renewable sources, produces electricity and heat needed for production processes in the plant," read the same source. "The energy efficiency of over 90 per cent in this co-generation facility led Chimcomplex to build a second plant of this type in 2015." The "Co-generation facility II" project was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, the total value of the project being of 63.7 million RON (14.3 million Euro). According to the source, the Co-generation II facility produces more energy and heat than the city of Ramnicu Valcea consumes. Following the two investments, Chimcomplex has reduced energy costs by 42 per cent and became one of the most advanced chemical plants. Moreover, in terms of environmental impact, due to the annual natural gas savings generated by the project, CO2 emissions are being reduced by over 17,800 tonnes per year. "The first co-generation plant, our own creation developed with a partner from Switzerland, Turbomach, received in 2010 an award of excellence and a check for 375,000 Euro for the plant with the highest energy efficiency of the projects funded in Europe by EBRD and the European Energy Efficiency Fund. Regarding the co-generation II facility, commissioned in May 2015, tests showed that overall efficiency exceeds 91 per cent," said Dumitru Coman, general manager of Chimcomplex.
