Romania likely to start building helicopter factory in mid-October
Romania could manufacture helicopters, with the works for building such a factory to start after mid-October, provided the legal procedures are fulfilled on time, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Tourism said in a release on Tuesday.The ministry's State Secretary Sorin Encutescu has recently met executives of France's Airbus Helicopters and Romania's Airbus Helicopters Industries, the release added. 2015-08-20 20:37:44
The participants in the talks "highlighted the determination to complete a new industrial facility in Romania aimed at the production of helicopters and to complete the legal procedures for getting state aid and the construction authorizations for the new factory. They also discussed issues relating to the principles to be included in the new Cooperation Agreement, that will contribute to defining the new cooperation framework. The Agreement will also lay down the broad participation of a Romanian air company as potential subcontractors in making this helicopter. Airbus Helicopters representatives said that, provided all the legal procedures are accomplished on time, it is possible that the building works of the new helicopter factory started after mid-October", the ministry explained.
Attending the meeting were for Airbus Helicopters, Fabrice Arfi, Vice President Business Development Airbus Helicopters, Yann Guermonprez, Legal Directorate Airbus Helicopters, Baudoin Marraud-des-Grottes, Sales Director Airbus Helicopters for Eastern Europe and Serge Durand, Managing Director Airbus Helicopters Industries.
The Economy Ministry had said last month that the works on the Romanian production facility, where Super Puma MK 1 helicopters will be made could begin in mid-October. The new production capacity will also create new jobs, with the recruitment of the first highly-skilled batch of workers being 95 percent completed.
Former Economy Minister Constantin Nita and Airbus Helicopters President Guillaume Faury signed in Sept. 2014 a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Romania and Airbus Helicopters regarding Super Puma MK 1 Project.
The Memorandum expresses the intention of the Romanian Government and Airbus Helicopters to cooperate and mutually support the actions required for expanding in the Romanian market and to develop the production capacities for Super Puma MK 1 helicopters within the Air Technological Park at IAR Brasov platform
