Minel Ciurea appointed General Manager of Philips factory in Orastie

Starting August 2014, Minel Ciurea is the new General Manager for the factory owned by Philips in Orastie.

Since 2009, the factory owned by the Dutch group has been producing espresso coffee machines that are exported to all major European markets. Also, since 2012, the company has been producing oral hygiene devices under the Sonicare brand.

Minel main objectives as the new General Manager for Philips Orastie are to develop and strengthen the factory's position as a production unit with a strategic importance for Consumer Lifestyle in Eastern Europe. Minel Ciurea is responsible for the operational management of the factory, team management and cost control. Minel Ciurea has begun to develop and implement the strategy of Philips Orastie in order to optimize the production process and to fulfill consumer expectations.

Minel Ciurea has over 17 years of experience in operational management and is specialized in Defects Quality and Lean Manufacturing, and also in multidisciplinary teams and complex projects management in highly competitive industries. He was formerly Plant Manager of a supplier of products for the automotive industry, Inventa Products. As Plant Manager, Minel Ciurea oversaw the factory operations, strengthened and implemented the business strategy and developed plans to increase the factory′s product portfolio.

During his career, Minel Ciurea held senior management positions within Inteva Products, BOS Automotive Products, Zumtobel and Takata Petri Romania, including Operations Manager, Manufacturing Engineering Manager and Design Engineer.
Minel Ciurea graduated the Mechanical Engineering Faculty of The Polytechnic University of Timisoara and has a master's degree in Mechanics from the same University. Also, he has a degree in Management at the Open University of Business School UK.

Philips means more than 120 years of tradition in innovations to improve people′s lives in areas such as healthcare, lifestyle and lighting. "Innovation and you" is not just a slogan, Philips being placed on the 3rd place with 1.839 patent applications in 2014.

With sales of 23.3 billion Euro and with a brand worth 9.8 billion dolars in 2013, Philips means over 105,000 professional employees in more than 100 countries.

The factory located in Orastie is one of the two units dedicated to the production of automatic coffee machines in Europe. With over 17 years of tradition, the factory became part of the Philips group in 2009, with currently over 800 professionals who share a passion for innovation and quality, being employed in Production, Quality, Industrial Engineering, Logistics, but also in Finance, HR and IT. In 2014, Philips Orastie had a turnover of 116 million Euro, an increase of over 14 per cent compared to 2013.
