Eurostat: Production in construction down by 0.7 per cent in Euro area
In June 2014 compared with May 2014, seasonally adjusted production in the construction1 sector fell by 0.7 per cent in the euro area2 (EA18) and by 0.3 per cent in the EU282, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

In May 20143, production in construction fell by 1.4 per cent in both zones. In June 2014 compared with June 20134, production in construction fell by 2.3 per cent in the euro area and by 0.5 per cent in the EU28.
Monthly comparison by construction sector and by Member State
The decrease of 0.7 per cent in production in construction in the euro area in June 2014, compared with May 2014, is due to building construction falling by 0.9 per cent and civil engineering by 0.5 per cent.
In the EU28, the decrease of 0.3 per cent is due to building construction falling by 0.5 per cent and civil engineering by 0.2 per cent. The largest decreases in production in construction were observed in Hungary (-7.5 per cent), Spain (-2.9 per cent), Romania (-2.6 per cent) and Slovakia (-2.3 per cent), and the highest increases in Poland (+2.7 per cent), Germany (+1.2 per cent), the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom (both +1.1 per cent).
Annual comparison by construction sector and by Member State
The decrease of 2.3 per cent in production in construction in the Euro area in June 2014, compared with June 2013, is due to building construction falling by 2.0 per cent and civil engineering by 3.4 per cent.
In the EU28, the decrease of 0.5 per cent is due to building construction falling by 0.2 per cent and civil engineering by 2.7 per cent. The largest decreases in production in construction were registered in Romania (-13.1 per cent), Portugal (-10.3 per cent), Slovakia (-5.0 per cent) and the Netherlands (-3.5 per cent), and the highest increases in Slovenia (+28.7 per cent), Hungary (+9.8 per cent), Poland (+8.0 per cent) and Spain (+6.8 per cent).
