The new management board will be in service for two-year time mandate with the mentioning that the president and vice-president positions will be exchanged after one year.
The members of the newly appointed board have an extended experience in the pharmaceutical industry having occupied different positions. Gabor Sztaniszlav has graduated from the Semmelweis University, has a Pharm.D. in pharmacology and holds an MBA degree from the University of Durham. Throughout his career, he has activated as marketing and sales manager with remarkable results for over 15 years.
"We acknowledge the efforts of the government for updating the reimbursement list after couple of years with the 17 orphan medicines. However there are still products which did not reach the Romanian patients yet, only a part of the job is done. These innovative medicines can bring added value even to the already existing therapeutic options. Taking into account the current healthcare context, LAWG is determined more than ever to carry on its engagement to enlarge the access of Romanian patients to innovative treatments. Innovative medicines shorten the period of treatment and hospitalization, could prolong the life expectancies and help in reducing healthcare system associated costs. In this regard, last year, LAWG issued a joint report together with AmCham in which there have been presented feasible financing solutions for the healthcare system. We are determined to take actions for growing the investments in innovation and prevention as they are the leading keys to a nation well-being in terms of health," stated Gabor Sztaniszlav, the new President of LAWG.
The Association focus is also directed "towards conducting effective advocacy for the public policies in the view of generating a transparent legislative frame altogether with a sustainable and predictable working environment," according to Radu Rasinar, the new vice-president of LAWG.
The distinctive feature of LAWG consists in being the affiliate of Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), the organization that plays a significant role in promoting medical innovation. PhRMA members invested an estimated 49.4 billion USD in 2010 in discovering and developing new medicines. The amount invested in Romania by PhRMA member companies reaches an estimated Euro 100 million, used to power research and biopharmaceutical activities.
Previously, the leadership of LAWG has been held by the representatives of Pfizer, Merck Sharp & Dohme.
