Cigarettes smuggling represents 13.4 percent of the market

Cigarettes smuggling  remained constant during the first months of this year, reaching13 percent of the market  in March, but fell by 1.4 percentage points compared to March last year, it said in a study of company research Novel Research. The smuggling of tobacco products is relatively constant, reaching 13.4 percent of total consumption on the Romanian market. In all regions strongly affected by this phenomenon figures have not changed: 31 percent in the Western region, 22.2 percent in the Northeast and 20.8 percent in the Northwest. What can be found in Bucharest is a worrying increase, 5.8 percentage points in March 2012 to January, up until13.5 percent share. Regarding to sources from the weight of contraband cigarettes, according to tax stamps affixed to packages, it places Ukraine in first place with 27 percent, followed by Moldova with 26.2 percent, Serbia with 20,8 percent and duty-free network by 18.7 percent.
