A new law will also give authorities the power to instantly shut down an illegal construction project. The Government will increase the value of fines for illegal buildings to 2,500 - 12,000 Euro from the current 250 - 1,200 Euro.
According to the Romanian Minister of Tourism, Elena Udrea, there are “alarming signs” that authorisation rules are not observed. In reply, the Constanta city mayor Radu Mazare says that Minister Udrea wants to hold back the construction of new projects in the Mamaia resort close to his town. Mazare added that constructions on the beach in Mamaia have been approved by the Ministry of Tourism.
He also argued that the plan could impede his desire to make Constanta into the Black Sea’s Monte Carlo.
