Generous renewable law faces EU test

Romania’s renewable energy law may need to change due to queries from the European Commission (EC) regarding over-subsidy to the country’s young renewable energy market.
The main issue is whether a new wind, solar, hydro, geothermal or biomass power project can join an industry-funded subsidy scheme and - at the same time – cash in non-reimbursable funds from the EU.
